What could Jesus-type communities look like today? Without the institutional trappings, politics and top-down leadership and failures of churchianity? The first christians pulled it off, difficult as it was. Should we copy them? Of course not! Our world is radically different. But we can faithfully reimagine Jesus' communal values in ways that avoid the power politics of institutional church, but also the cultishness of spiritual fundamentalism and naivety. We need healing from our tortured experiences of aloof or cultish christianity. Let's re-connect faith and real life, by building truly restorative and healthy communities, shaped by Jesus' values.
